The wait is over! And now, a new five month wait begins. Today Sony released The Amazing Spider-Man 2 trailer! My thoughts? Hell yes! With Sony releasing new news seemingly daily and dropping hints everywhere, anticipation for this movie has been at an all time high. If this trailer is any indication, ASM2 will live up to the hype. We catch up with Peter Parker, again being played brilliantly by Andrew Garfield, a ways after the events of the first movie. He has now fully embraced his role of Spider-Man, and he is starting to realize the costs that can come with that. We will be introduced to three new villains this time (at least). I have to admit, I have had my doubts about Jamie Fox playing Electro. No longer. He looks bad-ass and I love the effects they have done with him. We don’t actually see Paul Giamatti, but we do get a quick glimpse of the Rhino suit, and I really like it. It looks like a full on mech suit and is perfect for bringing that character to life on the big screen. Finally, we get brief glimpses of the Green Goblin as well. It appears the rumors were true, and that the Goblin will actually be Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan). DeHaan is one of my favorite up and coming young actors and he looks to be really great in this role. Chris Cooper will play Norman Osborn and he appears to be in very bad health as was eluded to in the first movie. Yet he may just be the mastermind behind everything.
While Electro will be the titular villain, Oscorp looks to be the driving force behind all the villains. The shadowy figure from the post credits scene in the first movie is back, although still in the shadows. We see him walking through the Oscorp labs. Hints at a future Sinister Six appearance are furthered during that scene. If you look closely, you can see what appears to be a quick shot of the Vulture’s wings and Dr. Octopus’s robotic arms. So. Much. Win. I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s not all of the future villains we end up seeing in this film either. I think there is a decent chance we get hints for a future movie with Venom. Also, IMDB has Marton Csokas (LoTR, xXx) playing Dr. Kafka. In the comics, Dr. Kafka is a woman, and head of the Ravencroft Institute. However, the Dr. is someone that was famously impersonated by the Chameleon once. Another future villain?! If we get Chameleon, do we get his half-brother Kraven the Hunter?! So exciting! With Sony saying recently that they planned to expand on the entire Spider-Man universe, including spin-offs and sequels, the possibilities are endless and ASM2 looks to be the jumping off point for all of it! The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hits theaters May 2, 2014 and I am counting down the days.
