Sure it’s almost two years away, but no one else had claimed that date for release of their own movie. It seems more like a deadline date to make sure filming and production schedules are kept in check, but nonetheless, those of us from the ’80s welcome this news.
Eddie Murphy was the iconic rule-breaking, comedic cop in the early 80’s and 90’s, even before Lethal Weapon. He was Mel Gibson and Danny Glover as one character. No sidekick necessary, unless you count Bronson Pinchot (Perfect Strangers and Risky Business) as Surge…er, Serge. No word if he or Judge Reinhold will reprise their roles.
Brett Ratner is set to produce with Josh Applebaum and Andre Nemec writing the screenplay. Word is that Axel will be returning to his roots in Detroit for this installment. Only time will tell if Murphy can make a comeback from the flop Tower Heist, but if stays true to the original character there shouldn’t be any doubt that Beverly Hills Cop 4 will be a success.
