Back in July, some leaked test footage of Deadpool pulling all sorts of Deadpool shenanigans and the fan reaction was incredibly positive. Fans have been clamoring to see the Merc With A Mouth done justice in a feature film, and his so-called appearance in X-Men Origins: Wolverine left the taste of a rotten chimichanga on their palates. After years in development hell and a heavy campaign by Ryan Reynolds to get Wade Wilson a solo film, Fox has finally announced that they are moving forward with a Deadpool Movie and have given it a release date of February 12, 2016.
Ryan Reynolds has commented on the leaked footage from last summer saying in an interview with Niagara Falls Review,
“There was such an overpowering reaction to the footage, you sort of feel like, ‘Oh, so we weren’t crazy for our reasons for loving this character, for loving this role.’ It’s interesting to see the power of the Internet. It’s awe-inspiring, actually, and it’s neat that Twitter and Facebook and Instagram can move mountains when used in the right way.”
The date is set for three months before the release of X-Men: Apocalypse, and Ryan Reynolds is expected to wield the katanas, with Tim Miller set to direct a script from Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.
In addition to announcing a date for this highly anticipated movie, Fox has also delayed two other films. Both Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four and Assassin’s Creed have been delayed. Fantastic Four has been moved to August 7, 2015, while no replacement date was announced for Assassin’s Creed.
Are you happy that Deadpool may finally be getting the movie he deserves? Sound of in the comments!
