Fresh off of his hilarious turn as Al Cody in the Coen Brothers’ Inside Llewyn Davis and his critically acclaimed work on HBO’s Girls, Adam Driver has been cast in what can only be called the biggest break in his young career. The 30 year old Cody is set to play the still-unknown villain in the newest film in the epic Star Wars saga, currently only known as Star Wars Episode VII, which is set to start filming for a 2015 release in just a few weeks.
This is one of the first officially casting announcements from the eagerly anticipated film from J.J. Abrams, which is also expected to feature the original trio of Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher reprising their roles as Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and Leia Organa repsectively. What role Driver will play beyond just “villain” is up for complete speculation for now, as is nearly everything else about the film, as the Abrams camp has been expectedly hushed about any potential plot details from Episode VII.
Star Wars Episode VII is currently slated to release on December 18, 2015 after a delay from the already jam-packed summer schedule late last year. This will be the first of what is expected to be a flood of Star Wars films from the newly formed Disney and Lucasfilm powerhouse, following a $4.5 billion buyout in 2012. Keep it tuned to Free4Geeks.com for future casting updates as well as news on the filming and plot of Episode VII as they become available.
