The king will return. And now we know when! Sadly, we are going to have to wait for a bit. This morning Legendary Pictures made the announcement that Godzilla 2 will be hitting theaters on June 8, 2018. That’s four years after the first in the reboot series that after it tore it’s way through the box office earlier this summer. There is a reason though. Gareth Edwards, the amazing director of the first film, will be returning. And in the wake of Godzilla’s success, Edwards landed himself as director of the first ever stand alone Star Wars film. I guess the folks at Disney liked what they saw. That film will be first priority for Edwards and it is due out December 16, 2016. So it’s understandable why we will have to wait so long for Godzilla 2. I also have a feeling that it will be worth the wait! At comic con last month, Legendary announced they had acquired the rights to famed Godzilla opponents Rodan, Mothra, and King Ghidorah! At least one, and quite possibly two, of those classics will be there to push Godzilla to his limits! With Marvel and DC snatching up dates for the next six years, Legendary is the first to grab the June 8, 2018 spot. And just like with Godzilla himself, nobody will want to go toe to toe with Godzilla 2 that week.
