Guardians of the Galaxy 2 Announced

Guardians of the Galaxy, which hits theaters this Friday, August 1, is quickly becoming one of the most talked about films of the year and of the MCU. Staring a massive and wonderful cast including Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, John C. Reilly, Glenn Close, and Benicio Del Toro (ya know, just to name a few), Guardians is poised to be a massive success. It is the lead in film to the highly anticipated Avenger: Age of Ultron, which opens May 1, 2015, and as of this article, sits at 100% on Rotten Tomatoes with 25 reviews in thus far. So all this means that it wasn’t all too shocking when at their San Diego Comic-Con panel last night, Marvel, along with Guardians director James Gunn and star Chris Pratt, formally announced Guardians of the Galaxy 2, a full week before the first film has eve released, for July 28, 2017. This also wasn’t too surprising given rumors of the Guardians involvement in Avengers 3, the obvious cosmic threat of Thanos know to occur in Avengers 3, and the huge number of dates between now and 2019 that Marvel recently locked in (yes, yes I did call Guardians 2 exactly!).

Marvel also announced several other smaller pieces of news this week including the addition of Mockingbird to ABC’s Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Corey Stoll announced as Darren Cross, aka Yellowjacket, and Evangeline Lilly confirmed as Hank Pym’s daughter, Hope Van Dyne. Janet van Dyne was of course The Wasp, and married to Hank Pym in many comic story lines, so it seems likely that Lilly’s character is the daughter of the two bite-sized heroes, and I suspect may take up her mother’s moniker at some point in the future. No footage from Ant-Man or AvengersAge of Ultron is available unfortunately, but below you can check out a bit of the panel for Marvel’s newest TV venture, Marvel’s Agent Carter.
