The smell hasn’t even started to wain from all the cash that the LEGO Group and Warner Brothers have been raking in, but we’re already hearing the news for other movies. I imagine the two entities as Scrooge McDuck swimming in the vault of coins, coming up for air and claiming “Let’s make another one!” Whether or not that’s the way it happened, it’s exactly what they’ve done.
Warner Brothers has just set the release date for “The LEGO Movie 2” as May 26, 2017. While this is over three years away, it does point to the fact that there will be a sequel and that they have a production schedule already set. Since this movie is billed as a sequel, it is assumed that much of the original cast will return. Afterall, you don’t really kill LEGO characters, they just simply get put back together.
Earlier in the week it was announced that Warner Bros. was considering production of a sequel movie as well as a Ninjago spin-off. No word yet has been made as to a release of a Ninjago movie.
Warner Brothers seems to think they have a winning formula. The LEGO Movie opened on February 7, and in just two weeks has grossed over $150 million. Their success partly due to winning over all audiences from young to old.
