Thanks to The Hollywood Reporter, we now know that someone who is no stranger to superhero movies will be joining Josh Trank’s upcoming Fantastic Four reboot.
Tim Blake Nelson, who you may also know portrayed Dr. Samuel Sterns in the Incredible Hulk back in 2008. The end of TIH left the fate of Nelson’s character up in the air, setting him up to become The Leader, however, it remains to be seen if the Marvel Cinematic Universe will tie up that loose end, or leave Sterns’ character in limbo to focus on the wealth of characters they already have.
In the meantime though, Nelson will be playing another scientist in another Marvel universe, this one belonging to 20th Century Fox. He will be playing Harvey Elder. Fans of the FF will recognize this name as the scientist who becomes The Mole Man after discovering the world of Subterranea. The Mole Man was the very first villain that the FF ever faced, however, it seems as if the report pegs him as playing only the scientist which could possibly set up for a sequel in which he will portray the villain. Sounds similar to his role in TIH doesn’t it?
Trank’s FF reboot has caught a lot of flack from fans despite almost nothing being known about it so far. The reactions come from the producer’s description of the plot and tone, but mostly from the announcement of the casting decisions made by the studio. With Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Jamie Bell, Toby Kebbell, and possibly the casting that has drawn the most ire, Michael B. Jordan as the Human Torch.
The Nelson casting may come as a breath of fresh air for fans, and possibly calm some of the firestorm (pun intended) surrounding the troubled reboot.
Trank’s Fantastic Four Reboot will hit theaters in June 19, 2015.
