If photographic evidence followed by social media cues are to be accepted, then it seems that the countdown that Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon has been tweeting are pointing not to the next installment of 2013’s new franchise Injustice: Gods Among us, but an apparent sequel to 2011’s franchise saving Mortal Kombat 9. A picture surfaced today that gives credence to the idea that E3 will see the return of Nether Realm Studio’s popular and violent fighter, as Boon’s countdown has been leading to the week of the gaming convention in Los Angeles, June 9-12.
Ahhh…. that fits better!

The poster features a distorted, possibly broken spine on a plain black background along with the MK logo and the phrase “Who’s Next?” at the bottom. Following the leak, Ed Boon, as well as the Mortal Kombat facebook page have updated their profiles to the new, slightly altered Dragon logo, and even added the phrase Who’s Next to their output on social media, all but confirming the leak is legit. Be sure to check out the poster below and come back to Free4Geeks.com starting June 9 for all of our E3 coverage, including live blogs of every press event, screen shots and trailers for every game that gets announced.
