That’s right! Like Gypsy Danger rising from the ocean, Guillermo Del Torro is at it again. He is officially set as the director for Pacific Rim 2. Yes, a sequel to the 2013 robot vs alien battle, set to be released April 7, 2017. Universal Pictures will once again distributing this film as part of their original deal with Legendary Pictures.
While 2017 seems like such a long time away, the film had to wait for all the assumed-to-be-blockbusters of 2015 and 2016 like The Avengers: Age of Ultron, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Star Wars: Episode VII, and X-Men: Apocalypse to have their moments. Del Torro is co-writing the script with Zak Penn. The film is set to be released in 3D and IMAX, although there is no word yet if it will actually be filmed with either format’s cameras.
So after this I guess the only thing left is…Hellboy 3?
