Okay, so admittedly this story isn’t 100% geeky (even though sports stats nerds may rival Star Trek fans for geekiest of all time), but this is a story that is just too good not to share with our rabid, nerdy fanbase! Read on to see how you can be a flippin’ billionaire!
Famed mega-successful investor, Warren Buffett (think Scrooge McDuck, only in human form) is backing a contest that will win you a cool 1 billion dollars. That’s right, a BILLION! What do you have to do? Only pick a perfect March Madness bracket. For those of the uninformed, March Madness is the time of year where people everywhere call off of work so that they can get drunk, cheer for college basketball and wage money/pride on how well their bracket is doing. What do I mean by bracket? Well, it’s simply a tournament still layout (this should come easy to you Madden/Magic tourney junkies) where you pick the winner between two collegiate schools. How hard should that be, anyways? Well, it’s never been documented as having been done before for one. That’s well over seventy years of trying, mind you. Also, you’ll have to pick 63 straight winners. Doesn’t sound too difficult…until you see the odds. I’m no math wiz, but the geeks upstairs say that there is a 9.2 quadrillion chance of making this happen. That’s 18 0’s people! You have the same odds of hitting the Powerball… 3 straight times!
Bufffett believes in you, though. He says “anything is possible” and that he’s “seen stranger things”. Well, if that’s not a vote of confidence, I don’t know what is. Don’t be fooled, however; all of the staff members here at free4geeks and the Free for All Podcast will be taking part in this little venture; so why not you, too? If you do win, you can get 40 annual installments of $25mil or a cool $500mil lump sum. It;s nice to have options. The prize, which is being offered by Quicken Loans, can be found on the Quicken Loans tournament site starting March 3rd and will run until March 19th with free registration. So limber up those typing fingers, people ’cause you’re gonna need ’em!
