For those of us who have been fortunate enough to witness the shenanigans of Shawn and Gus (James Roday and Dule Hill respectively) for the past seven or so years, this is both a tragedy and a bit of a shock. The most odd thing about this announcement is that USA doesn’t seem to have a replacement established to take the reigns from this cult hit. Psych at least had Monk to lean on until Monk ran its course…but nothing on USAs slate is even remotely able to fill this shoes massive shoes.
According to Chris McCumber, The President of the USA Network,
“Psych has made an indelible imprint on the television landscape, with a unique brand of comedy. The final season celebrates the iconic characters that have made this show so beloved, and will be an exclamation point on the series’ incredible run. And while the series will wrap in March somehow I don’t believe we’ve heard the last of Shawn and Gus.”
Sadness. Unexpected. To me it’s more than a little strange that this announcement comes in the middle of the season. A show that’s been on the air for this long normally gets an announcement prior to the final season; that way the fans who have been emotionally involved in the characters and stories can have a proper farewell. Now, if any show has the same Chuck/Firefly ability to get fans to save its show it’s Psych. Hopefully the Psych-Os, a rabid group of Psych fans, will pull together and get the show the great sendoff it needs! Trust me, I’ll be one of them!
I am more than a little intrigued about that last line from McCumber. Does that mean that there is more Psych? Doubtful. Maybe a spinoff of some sort? Maaaaybe. How abouta movie? That’s definitely a possibility. Besides, the more Psych I get the better. It’s still hard to fathom. This is one of my favorite shows of all time and it’ll be missed. We’ll keep you up to date on any other future news on this tragic event. In the meantime, look forward to the Psych season 8 review here at free4geeks.com.
