Report: Marvel offers Rocket Raccoon role to A-list Actor

Marvel is on fire right now. Every movie they put out is absolute gold for them. Next summer they will put that to the test in their riskiest movie yet in Guardians of the Galaxy. In fact, head of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige all but said that if Guardians is a hit, then they feel that they can make absolutely anything. Longtime comic book and Marvel fans (such as myself) have long known about Guardians but to the general public they are largely unknown.  To the fans that they do have, there is one character that has always been the fan favorite. That character is Rocket Raccoon. Yes he is a raccoon. And yes, he LOVES guns. The success of this movie will largely depend on whether or not Marvel can make RR a fan favorite of the general movie goer.  It appears Marvel has taken the first step in assuring this. According to Latino Review (to view original article click here), who has an incredible track record when it comes to leaked Marvel knowledge, Marvel has offered the role to voice Rocket Raccoon to Bradley Cooper!

I do stress that this is just a report as of now and nothing has been confirmed. Also, Latino Review reported that right now it is just an offer and Cooper hasn’t yet agreed to it. Supposedly this has been director James Gunn’s first choice all along and that Marvel is very hopeful that Cooper accepts. I think it is an excellent choice for the role as Cooper is a HUGE name in Hollywood right now coming off of the Hangover franchise and last years critically acclaimed Silver Linings Playbook and the upcoming American Hustle. His a-list status helps give legitimacy to an out there character that the average fan would have trouble swallowing. Not to mention, I think his voice will be perfect with his cool and cocky sound. Hopefully he will accept this offer soon. He would be the proverbial cherry on top for what what is already a star studded cast. Guardians of the Galaxy will hit theaters August 1, 2014.

For deals? Daaaaaamn! Also, to David’s point, they need legitimacy to this role and a legit star to pull people (and Cooper will get the ladies, too) in. This would be HUGE!

  • I still say the voice actor from Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 would have been great!
