Oscar Isaac has been cast as Apocalypse in the next X-Men film! The actor continues his red hot streak after his critically acclaimed performance in last year’s Inside Llewyn Davis. He is a major cast member in next year’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens and now will play En Sabah Nur himself in the titular villain role in 2016’s X-Men Apocalypse. Magneto may be the X-Men’s most famous foe, but there is a strong case to be made that Apocalypse is their greatest and most dangerous enemy. Born in ancient Egypt as En Sabah Nur, Apocalypse is believed to have been the first mutant. Due to his immense powers and apparent immortality, he grew to adopt a “survival of the fittest” mentality, believing that “worthy” mutants should rule the world.
Isaac was a surprise choice, after it was reported weeks ago that Fox was talking to Tom Hardy. Obviously that did not work out, but I personally am giddy about the casting. Isaac is a great actor and almost all of the adult Apocalypse shots will most likely be CG. Isaac will join returning cast members James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, and possibly (probably) Hugh Jackman. Also look for major characters Cyclops and Jean Grey to be recast as younger versions. X-Men: Apocalypse will take place in the 80’s and will hit theaters in summer of 2016.
