Watch This, Not That – New Fall Shows for October 13-19

Hello once again friends! It has been a great last month of premiers for TV and I’m feeling good about a lot of my predictions! We are starting to wind down for the fall premiers but we aren’t done yet! Probably just one or two more of the weekly posts for this column and then I will write one that covers the rest of 2014 since the rest of the premiers will be so spread out from there. Never fear though, we will be back in early 2015! But until then, we still have several great, and several not so great, shows set to premier!

Quick explanation for you new readers (welcome!), this is a post that discusses new shows only. Popular returning shows are listed with their date, time, and channel at the bottom so we can be an all inclusive guide for your TV habit. My predictions are based on how I think shows will do in the ratings and if they will get a second season, not if I will like them or not. There are plenty of shows that I think look really good that I also think will get cancelled. I will give my thoughts on each show and my reasons for their prediction. You will also see a quick “Trey Says” line for each show where you get Trey Elliott’s prediction. He will be writing a follow up post each week that will discuss each new show and his thoughts on them and how they are doing in the ratings. That post will cover shows that have been out for two weeks. Look for that tomorrow as he will be discussing shows from this column two weeks ago. It will be titled “WTNT – On Second Thought”, so check it out! At the end of the year, we will tally our predictions and see who comes out on top!

Now, on to the predictions!

Marry Me – NBC. Tuesday October 14, 9 PM ET

Trey Says: Watch This!

Marry MeSitcoms are so hard to predict. Cristella actually had a good premier last week. Really America?!? But one thing I will not do is tell you not to watch a show from the creator of Happy Endings. God I loved that show. And Marry Me actually looks pretty funny as well. It has also got a lot of critical praise and being on Tuesday, it wouldn’t take much for it to be the biggest comedy of the night. Although that does mean it has to go head to head with some pretty big dramas. Sure it doesn’t matter how other networks’ shows are doing in comparison when it comes time to cancel or renew, but if they are all watching something else, it’s hard to get good ratings for your own show. I don’t think Marry Me kills it in the ratings, but I think it might do just enough.

Foo Fighters: Sonic Highways – HBO. Friday October 17, 11 PM ET

Trey Says: Watch This!

Sonic HighwaysI absolutely cannot wait to watch this show. For one, it’s an absolute Watch This because this is only one season. This is an eight episode series/documentary that follows the Foo Fighters as they travel to eight different cities to record songs for their upcoming album with each city’s musical history influencing those particular songs. This will be great.

Transporter: The Series – TNT. Saturday October 18, 9 PM ET

Trey Says: Watch This!

TransporterI have no idea what to think about this show. I really enjoyed at least one of the movies. I also really hated one of them too. How will this translate to the small screen? Who knows. What I do know is that this was an easy call. This show has been made for two years. It has already aired over seas and did pretty well. Now that it is finally airing here, the second season is already filmed and already has a green light for 2015. If you are excited for this, rest easy. This show isn’t going anywhere for the next two years.

Jane the Virgin – CW. Monday October 13, 9 PM ET

Trey Says: Not This!

Jane the VirginI try to watch every show that I talk about on this post, good or bad, at least for a few episodes just so I can at least have first hand experience and knowledge with it. It is going to being my Everest to make it though an episode of this show. This looks HORRIBLE. And I know that the CW occasionally airs shows like this, but I have to have faith that this show won’t survive. There is only room for a few new shows on the CW every year. So shows have to go away for them to air new ones. With only one returning show on the chopping block (Beauty and the Beast), some of their new shows will not get picked up. Flash will be picked up. Jane the Virgin will not.

About a Boy – NBC. Tuesday October 14, 9:30 PM ET
Top Chef – Bravo. Wednesday October 15, 10 PM ET
